Buried 45 miners in China rescued

Mining accidents in China: A few thousand Chinese miners die each
year. In China, 45 miners for nearly two days after a serious mine
accident are alive again come to light. They were trapped underground
for 40 hours. Eight miners died in the collapse in the Qianqiu mine in
Sanmenxia (Henan Province) on Thursday killed.
Rescue crews were able to recover the trapped miners from a 780 meter
deep shaft. Under blankets lying on stretchers or on its own feet the
miners came back to light, as seen on TV was.
Some miners seemed visibly exhausted, had to be supported under the
arms as they left the pit of helpers. Happy about their rescue some
waved to the rescue teams and journalists, as the official news agency
Xinhua reported. To some workers, who endure since the accident in the
dark were needed to protect against the sudden light of day, they were
blindfolded.

Furthermore and to the users delight, the digitalized geological maps (on the attached CD-ROM) are correlated and amplified according to the present stratigraphic time tables. The atlas does contribute to capacity building in African Earth Sciences and to enhance research and economic opportunities in Africa by providing a database of basic geological background information.
